Salech’s Stoppage-Time Strike Denies Huddersfield in League One Draw with Cardiff

Huddersfield Town were denied a valuable League One victory at the death as Cardiff City substitute Yousef Salech struck a 95th-minute equaliser in a 1–1 draw on matchday 40.

The home side went in front on 27 minutes, capitalising on an early spell of pressure. Ryan Ledson finished off a well-worked move for Huddersfield, with Lasse Sørensen providing the assist to make it 1–0. That advantage held through a combative first half in which Cardiff’s Alex Robertson collected a yellow card on the stroke of half-time.

Huddersfield were forced into an early change when Bojan Radulovic made way for George Sebine in the 38th minute, but the hosts maintained their shape and lead into the interval.

Cardiff managerially reset after the break with a triple substitution on the hour mark, introducing David Turnbull, Yousef Salech and Gabriel Osho for Robertson, Chris Willock and Dylan Lawlor. The latter had already gone into the book on 59 minutes as Cardiff’s discipline wavered, with Ryan Wintle later joining him on the yellow card list in the 72nd minute.

Huddersfield sought to protect their lead through late changes, bringing on Marcus McGuane, Mickel Miller and Joe Low in the closing stages. Cardiff, meanwhile, added further attacking influence as Callum Robinson replaced Rubin Colwill on 66 minutes and Joel Colwill came on for Wintle in the 83rd minute.

The visitors’ pressure finally told deep into stoppage time. In the 90+5th minute, Salech levelled the match, finishing after being set up by Robinson to make it 1–1 and stun the home support.

A flurry of late yellow cards followed for Joel Colwill and Huddersfield’s Sean Roughan as tempers frayed in the final moments. No additional detailed statistics, lineups or attendance figures were available at the time of writing.

The draw leaves both Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City reflecting on missed opportunities as the League One season moves into its decisive final weeks. Full match details are available at Ballaxy.
