Wigan Cruise Past Rotherham with Convincing 3–0 League One Win
Wigan Athletic FC delivered a composed home performance to defeat Rotherham United FC 3–0 on League One matchday 32, with goals from Jason Kerr, Joe Taylor and Callum Wright sealing the points.
The hosts struck first on 15 minutes. Defender Jason Kerr opened the scoring for Wigan, finishing after a setup from James Carragher to give the Latics an early 1–0 lead.
Rotherham picked up the first booking of the evening when Jamal Baptiste was shown a yellow card in the 41st minute, as Wigan took their one-goal advantage into the interval.
Wigan tightened their grip on the match shortly after half-time. In the 52nd minute, Joe Taylor doubled the lead, converting with assistance from Matthew Smith to make it 2–0. Just over ten minutes later, Callum Wright added a third, scoring in the 63rd minute after good work from Raphael Borges Rodrigues to put the result beyond doubt.
Both sides turned to their benches in the second half. Rotherham introduced Ar’jany Martha on 62 minutes and later made a triple change on 73 minutes, bringing on James Clarke, Jordan Hugill and Emmanuel Adegboyega. Wigan responded with a series of substitutions of their own, including Ryan Trevitt and Morgan Fox on 69 minutes, followed by Harrison Bettoni and Joseph Hungbo on 80 minutes, and Owen Moxon replacing Jensen Weir in the 85th minute.
The closing stages brought further cautions, with Fraser Murray and Will Aimson booked for Wigan in the 64th and 88th minutes respectively, while Brandon Cover saw yellow for Rotherham in the 72nd minute.
