Late Rowles Winner Caps D.C. United Comeback Over Orlando City
D.C. United SC produced a dramatic late turnaround to defeat Orlando City SC 3–2 in MLS regular-season action on Matchday 10, with Kye Rowles scoring a 90th-minute winner.
The hosts started brightly and were rewarded after just 10 minutes. Jackson Hopkins finished off a well-worked move, turning in a pass from Keisuke Kurokawa to give D.C. United a 1–0 lead.
Orlando City responded strongly after the break. In the 56th minute, Justin Ellis pulled the visitors level, and the momentum swung further in their favour 11 minutes later. Tyrese Spicer made an instant impact off the bench, striking in the 67th minute from an Adrián Marín assist to put Orlando 2–1 ahead.
D.C. United turned to their bench, introducing Jacob Murrell and Nikola Marković in the 77th minute, and the changes proved decisive. In the 84th minute, Louis Munteanu equalised at 2–2, set up by Marković, to reignite the home side’s hopes.
The comeback was completed right on 90 minutes. Rowles found the decisive goal, finishing after a pass from Murrell to send D.C. United in front for the second time on the night and secure all three points.
The match was competitive throughout, with a flurry of yellow cards on both sides, including cautions for Iago and Luis Aquino of Orlando, and Lucas Bartlett, Munteanu, Brandon Servania, Jared Stroud and Kurokawa for D.C. United. Wilder Cartagena was also booked late on for the visitors.
Both coaches made multiple substitutions as the game wore on, with Griffin Dorsey, Spicer, Tahir Reid-Brown and Cartagena coming on for Orlando, while Jared Stroud, Murrell, Marković and Connor Antley featured off the bench for D.C. United.
