Ipswich Town Hit Back to Edge Birmingham in Championship Clash

Ipswich Town FC came from behind to claim a 2–1 home victory over Birmingham City FC in Championship action on 6 April 2026, turning the game around with two goals before half-time.

Birmingham struck first in the 32nd minute, when Carlos Vicente put the visitors ahead to make it 1–0. Ipswich’s response was swift. In the 41st minute, Ben Johnson levelled the score at 1–1, finishing a move set up by Darnell Furlong.

The hosts then completed the turnaround just before the interval. In the 45th minute, Kasey McAteer found the net, with George Hirst providing the assist, sending Ipswich into the break 2–1 up.

The first half also saw a yellow card for Birmingham’s Demarai Gray in the 38th minute, and an early enforced change for Ipswich as Azor Matusiwa made way for Anis Mehmeti on 39 minutes. After the restart, Birmingham introduced Tomoki Iwata for Seung-Ho Paik at half-time, and later made a double change on 56 minutes, bringing on Ethan Laird and Ibrahim Osman for Jonathan Panzo and Gray.

Ipswich refreshed their attacking options in the 75th minute, with a triple substitution as Jack Taylor, Chuba Akpom and Jaden Philogene-Bidace replaced Marcelino Núñez, Hirst and Jack Clarke. Taylor was later booked in the 76th minute. McAteer, whose goal proved to be the winner, was withdrawn in the 86th minute for Cédric Kipré as Ipswich looked to see out the result.

Birmingham made late attacking changes of their own on 81 minutes, introducing Patrick Roberts and Marvin Ducksch for Vicente and Jay Stansfield, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
