Porto Held by Nottingham Forest in Europa League Quarter-final First Leg
FC Porto and Nottingham Forest FC will head to the second leg with everything to play for after a 1-1 draw in their UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg on 9 April 2026.
The Portuguese side made an ideal start. On 11 minutes, William da Silva put Porto in front, finishing a move created by Gabriel Veiga, whose assist broke open the Forest defence. The advantage was short-lived, though. Just two minutes later, Martim Fernandes inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, bringing the visitors level at 1-1.
Veiga’s lively opening spell also brought the game’s only recorded booking. The Porto midfielder was shown a yellow card in the 15th minute, underlining the intensity of the early exchanges.
Porto responded to the own goal by making an early change, with Alberto Baio replacing Fernandes in the 19th minute. After the interval, Nottingham Forest adjusted their shape with a double substitution at half-time, introducing Nikola Milenković for Murillo and Igor Jesus for Chris Wood.
As both teams searched for a winner, Porto made a triple switch just before the hour mark, sending on Deniz Gul, Victor Froholdt and Pepê for Terem Moffi, Veiga and Borja Sainz. Forest continued to refresh their lineup as well, bringing on Omari Hutchinson and Neco Williams around the hour and later Ibrahim Sangaré in place of James McAtee.
No further goals followed, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the return match in England. Detailed information on attempts, possession and other key statistics is not available, but the early flurry of goals and numerous substitutions suggest a tense and closely contested encounter.
