Troy Parrott could be set for a major summer transfer after the best season of his career at AZ Alkmaar.

The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland striker has been in outstanding form in the Netherlands, once again showing his sharpness in front of goal during AZ’s 1-1 draw with Feyenoord on Sunday. Parrott had the ball in the net twice inside the opening minute, although only the second effort counted.

His form has attracted attention from several European clubs, with AC Milan considered one of the most realistic destinations. Tottenham have also been linked with renewed interest in their former academy forward, although any move back to Spurs would likely depend on the club’s Premier League situation.

Parrott earns big-club attention

European football expert Andy Brassell believes Parrott has done enough to earn a move to a bigger league.

“This has been the season of his life, really,” Brassell told talkSPORT. “He’s been really consistent in front of goal. He consistently gets himself into goal-scoring positions as well.”

Parrott joined AZ from Tottenham in the summer of 2024 and has developed into one of the Eredivisie side’s key attacking players. His move to the Netherlands has given him regular minutes, confidence and a clear role, which had been difficult to find earlier in his career.

Brassell believes that step has been crucial.

“Still only 24, so there’s room for him to develop more,” he said. “But I think the move to AZ has been brilliant for him.”

AZ have also enjoyed cup success this season, meaning Parrott would have European football if he stayed. However, Brassell does not expect him to remain in the Netherlands for much longer.

“I think he gets his move this summer,” he added.

AC Milan move could appeal

Milan are among the clubs following Parrott closely, with the Italian giants expected to look for attacking reinforcements.

Brassell suggested that the move could depend on Milan’s final league position, European qualification and managerial situation. Massimiliano Allegri’s future could also influence the club’s transfer plans.

“Now we know that Milan have been very interested,” Brassell said. “I suppose part of that depends on where they end up. Do they end up in the Champions League or the Europa League? How much money have they got in the pot come the end of the season? Is Max Allegri still the coach?”

AZ are thought to value Parrott at around €25 million, or £22m. That price could make him an attractive option for clubs looking for a striker with clear upside but without the huge cost attached to more established forwards.

“I think that’s really tempting for a lot of people,” Brassell explained. “There’s enough of a player in there that you take the risk that he’ll step up to the next level for that sort of money.”

He added that Parrott deserves the chance to test himself at a bigger club.

“I would love to see Parrott get an opportunity at Milan and see what he does with it.”

Tottenham could benefit from transfer

A summer move would also be good news for Tottenham.

Parrott joined Spurs from Ireland in 2017 and came through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut at 17 under Jose Mourinho. He made four first-team appearances for Tottenham and spent time on several EFL loans before leaving permanently.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham included a 20 per cent sell-on clause when Parrott moved to AZ. That means Spurs would receive a share of any fee if he is sold this summer.

Parrott signed a five-year contract with AZ until 2029 after completing a £6.7m move in July 2024.

For the striker, the next decision could be career-defining. After finally finding consistency and confidence in the Eredivisie, Parrott now appears ready for a bigger stage.
