Newcastle United will reportedly demand at least £80 million for Sandro Tonali if they decide to sell the midfielder this summer.
According to Football Insider, Tonali’s value has risen significantly since his £55m move from AC Milan in 2023, with Arsenal and Manchester United both monitoring his situation.
The Italian has been one of Newcastle’s standout performers in a disappointing campaign. Eddie Howe’s side sit 11th in the Premier League with one game remaining, and their underwhelming season has increased speculation that several key players could leave.
Arsenal tracking Tonali situation
Arsenal are said to be keeping a close eye on Tonali as they consider midfield options for the summer window.
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke claims Newcastle would look for a major fee if they allow the 25-year-old to leave.
“Newcastle will be looking for £80million for Sandro Tonali, maybe even more, looking at some of the other midfielders that have moved in the Premier League in recent seasons,” O’Rourke said.
He added that Newcastle may need to sell high-value players to give Howe more room to strengthen the squad.
“They might have to sell a couple of their big stars just to help allow Eddie Howe to spend in the summer window, and Tonali, no doubt, will be a player of huge interest to a number of clubs.”
Manchester United are also believed to be interested, while clubs in Italy are expected to follow the situation. However, a return to Serie A may be difficult because of the size of the fee required.
Tonali’s value continues to rise
Tonali has produced his most effective season in a Newcastle shirt, contributing three goals and seven assists across all competitions.
That form helps explain why his price has climbed so quickly. While Football Insider reports that Newcastle may seek £80m or more, other reports have suggested the figure could be closer to £100m. Italian outlet Corriere della Sera has placed the valuation at around £87m.
The common theme is that Newcastle may be forced into a difficult decision. Tonali could become available as part of a financial “sacrifice” to help the club stay in line with regulations and reshape the squad.
Newcastle could face major summer exits
Tonali is not the only Newcastle player attracting attention.
Anthony Gordon has been linked with Bayern Munich, while Bruno Guimaraes, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are also reportedly on the radar of major clubs.
That leaves Newcastle facing a crucial summer. Howe needs reinforcements after a disappointing league campaign, but the club may have to balance spending with significant sales.
For Arsenal and Manchester United, Tonali would represent a high-level midfield signing. But with Newcastle expected to demand a huge fee, any move will be expensive and complicated.
