Manchester United have reportedly taken a significant step toward signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson after agreeing personal terms with the Brazilian ahead of a potential summer move.
The 26-year-old has emerged as a key target for United as they look to strengthen their midfield, with interest intensifying in recent weeks. Reports from Italy suggest Ederson has agreed to a long-term contract that would keep him at Old Trafford until 2031, with a salary of around €5 million per year.
United are now expected to submit an offer in the region of €45 million to Atalanta in an attempt to finalise the deal once the transfer window opens.
Ederson has been one of Serie A’s most consistent midfielders since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022. He has made 178 appearances for the club and established himself as a reliable presence in central midfield, earning recognition at international level with Brazil.
While Atlético Madrid had also been linked with the player, their pursuit of other midfield targets could leave Manchester United in a strong position to complete the transfer.
Several Premier League clubs have tracked Ederson’s development in recent years, but United appear to have moved ahead of the competition as they push to secure his signature early.
From a performance perspective, the move is seen as a strong fit. Ederson’s all-round midfield qualities — including ball progression, defensive work rate and consistency — would add balance to United’s squad. Some analytical models even suggest he could quickly become one of the team’s most effective midfielders.
With negotiations now advancing, Manchester United look well placed to make Ederson one of their first major signings of the summer.
