Late Linday Winner Lifts Heerenveen Over Fortuna Sittard

SC Heerenveen battled back from an early setback to claim a 2–1 home victory over Fortuna Sittard on Eredivisie matchday 31, decided by a second-half winner from Marcus Linday.

The visitors struck first in the 12th minute. Philip Brittijn finished off a move created by Dimitris Limnios, putting Fortuna Sittard 1–0 ahead. Their lead, however, was short-lived.

Just four minutes later, Heerenveen responded. Ringo Meerveld restored parity in the 16th minute, converting after being set up by Jacob Trenskow to make it 1–1 and shift the momentum back towards the hosts.

Heerenveen made their first change shortly before the break, with Luca Oyen replacing Maxence Rivera in the 43rd minute. After the interval, both teams turned to their benches in search of a breakthrough, as Lasse Nordås made way for Dylan Vente for the home side in the 69th minute, while Fortuna Sittard introduced Yassin Oukili, Paul Gladon and Ivo Pinto in a triple substitution a minute later.

The decisive moment arrived in the 74th minute. Marcus Linday struck to put Heerenveen 2–1 up, finishing a chance created by Joris van Overeem. Fortuna Sittard pushed for a response, later bringing on Kristoffer Peterson and Owen Johnson, but the hosts held firm.

The closing stages were tense. Oliver Braude received a yellow card for Heerenveen in the 88th minute, before a dramatic finale saw Fortuna’s Ivo Pinto sent off with a red card on 90 minutes. Bernt Klaverboer was also booked for Heerenveen in stoppage time.

With this win, SC Heerenveen secured all three points in front of their home crowd. Detailed data on lineups, possession and other statistics were not available at the time of writing.
