Hamburger SV Hit Back to Stun Eintracht Frankfurt in Second-Half Turnaround
Hamburger SV produced a sharp second-half comeback to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 away from home on Bundesliga matchday 32, overturning a deficit in a frantic spell shortly after the interval.
The hosts went in front in the 48th minute when Can Uzun finished off a move created by Eintracht Frankfurt teammate Jonathan Burkardt, who provided the assist. Uzun’s strike gave Frankfurt early control after the break and briefly put them on course for an important home victory.
Hamburger SV, however, responded almost immediately. Just three minutes later, in the 51st minute, Albert Gronbaek Erlykke levelled the score at 1-1, converting after good work from Warmed Omari, whose assist shifted the momentum towards the visitors.
The turnaround was completed in the 59th minute. This time Gronbaek Erlykke turned provider, setting up Fabio Vieira to make it 2-1 to Hamburger SV. Vieira’s goal ultimately proved decisive as Frankfurt were unable to find a way back into the match.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s frustration grew as the half wore on, reflected in a series of bookings. Oscar Højlund, Rasmus Kristensen, Arnaud Kalimuendo, Can Uzun and Jean Bahoya were all shown yellow cards, with Kristensen later sent off after receiving a second booking in stoppage time. HSV’s Nicolás Capaldo was also cautioned late on.
Both coaches made multiple substitutions in an attempt to tilt the contest, but the visitors saw out the game to secure the three points. Detailed data on lineups, possession and other match statistics were not available at the time of writing.
The result adds late-season intrigue in the Bundesliga as matchday 32 draws to a close. Full match details and further updates can be found on the Ballaxy match centre here.
