Wrexham Strike Twice in Two Minutes to See Off Stoke in Championship Clash

Wrexham AFC tightened their grip on a strong Championship campaign with a composed 2–0 victory over Stoke City FC on matchday 43, decided by a rapid first-half double at the Racecourse.

The breakthrough came on 31 minutes when George Thomason finished to put Wrexham 1–0 up, rewarding the home side’s early pressure. Just two minutes later, Josh Windass struck a second, giving Wrexham a commanding 2–0 lead and leaving Stoke reeling from a ruthless spell in front of goal.

Stoke attempted to reset at the interval, making an immediate change as Jesurun Rak-Sakyi replaced Aaron Cresswell at the start of the second half. However, their frustration showed when Million Manhoef went into the referee’s book with a yellow card in the 47th minute.

The visitors continued to adjust in search of a route back into the match. Sam Gallagher made way for Róbert Boženík on 52 minutes, and Lewis Baker was replaced by Tatsuki Seko midway through the second half. Late on, Bosun Lawal was withdrawn for Pijus Otegbayo in the 86th minute as Stoke shuffled their options.

Wrexham, meanwhile, managed the game professionally after the interval. Oliver Rathbone was substituted for Lewis O’Brien in the 73rd minute, while goal scorer Windass and forward Sam Smith were later replaced by Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore respectively as the hosts looked to preserve energy and control the closing stages.

No further goals followed, and Wrexham’s two quick-fire strikes before the break proved enough to secure all three points. Detailed statistical data and additional match events beyond goals, bookings and substitutions were not available at the time of writing.
