Second-Half Fightback Sends Philadelphia Union Past Montreal

Philadelphia Union came from behind to secure a 2–1 victory over Montreal Impact FC in MLS regular-season play on Matchday 7, overturning a one-goal deficit with a strong second-half display.

Montreal struck first in the 23rd minute. Ivan Jaime Pajuelo finished off a well-worked move, converting after a set-up from Efraín Morales to give the hosts a 1–0 lead. The goal arrived shortly after Thomas Guilier had been booked in the 22nd minute, one of several first-half cautions that underlined the game’s competitive edge.

Montreal made an early change in the 37th minute, introducing Fabian Herbers for Wikelmann Carmona, but it was Philadelphia who seized control after the interval. In the 55th minute, Japhet Sery pulled the visitors level, finishing a move assisted by Milan Iloski to make it 1–1.

The Union completed the turnaround in the 70th minute. Substitute Ezekiel Alladoh made an immediate impact after replacing Ben Bender five minutes earlier, providing the assist for Jesús Bueno, whose goal put Philadelphia 2–1 ahead. The strike proved decisive as Montreal sought a response with a double substitution, bringing on Hennadiy Synchuk and Tomás Avilés.

The closing stages featured further changes and a series of yellow cards for Philadelphia, including bookings for Sery, Olwethu Makhanya, Bruno Damiani and Jovan Lukic, as the visitors worked to protect their narrow advantage. Montreal introduced Olger Escobar and Kwadwo Opoku in the 82nd minute in search of a late equaliser, but the Union held firm.

With this result, Philadelphia claim all three points on the road, while Montreal are left to reflect on a lead that slipped away despite an early breakthrough. Detailed statistics beyond goals, substitutions and bookings were not available at the time of writing.
