Hannover 96 punish Darmstadt with clinical 2–0 away win in 2. Bundesliga

Hannover 96 claimed an important 2–0 away victory over SV Darmstadt 98 on Matchday 29 of the 2. Bundesliga, making the most of their chances in a largely controlled display.

The visitors struck first in the 14th minute. Maurice Neubauer opened the scoring for Hannover 96, finishing off a move assisted by Benedikt Pichler to give the away side an early 1–0 lead. Pichler’s evening was cut short just six minutes later when he was replaced by Benjamin Källman in the 20th minute.

Hannover tightened up defensively after going in front, and their discipline was tested shortly before the break. Christian Titz received a yellow card in the 38th minute, the first booking of the match, but it did little to disrupt Hannover’s control as they took their one-goal advantage into half-time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, and Hannover doubled their lead in the 56th minute. Stefán Teitur Thórdarson made it 2–0 with a regular-time strike, leaving Darmstadt with a mountain to climb. Moments later, Darmstadt head coach Florian Kohfeldt was shown a yellow card in the 57th minute, underlining the home side’s rising frustration.

Darmstadt turned to their bench in search of a response, introducing Marco Richter on 63 minutes and later making a triple change between the 76th and 84th minutes, bringing on Matthias Bader, Aleksandar Vukotić, Yosuke Furukawa and Bartosz Bialek. Hannover, meanwhile, managed proceedings through further substitutions, including Virgil Ghiţă, Husseyn Chakroun and Hayate Matsuda, with Ghiţă also picking up a yellow card in the 79th minute after Ime Okon had been booked on 62 minutes.

Despite Darmstadt’s late changes, Hannover saw out the match without conceding, securing a clean sheet and all three points. Detailed data on shots, possession and individual chances beyond the goal and card events is not available.
