Pedro Brace Fires Flamengo Past Fluminense in Série A Clássico
Pedro delivered a decisive brace to give CR Flamengo a 2–1 victory over Fluminense FC in a fiercely contested Campeonato Brasileiro Série A clash on matchday 11.
The visitors struck early. In the 7th minute, Pedro finished clinically after being set up by Samuel Lino, putting Flamengo 1–0 up and immediately swinging the clássico in their favour. The goal also coincided with an early enforced change for Fluminense, as Luciano Acosta was replaced by Ganso moments later.
Flamengo doubled their advantage shortly after half-time. Once again it was Pedro, again supplied by Samuel Lino in the 51st minute, who made it 2–0 and gave the Rubro-Negro a strong cushion heading into the final half-hour.
Fluminense responded from the bench. Coach changes at the 65th minute introduced Jefferson Savarino and Rodrigo Castillo, and Savarino made an immediate impact. In the 76th minute he pulled one back for the hosts with a regular-time strike to reduce the deficit to 2–1 and set up a tense finish.
The closing stages were heated. Fluminense’s Martinelli had already been booked in the 38th minute, and late yellow cards followed for Rodrigo Castillo on 89 minutes, and for Flamengo’s Luiz Araújo, Bruno Henrique and Evertton in stoppage time. The most serious incident came when Flamengo substitute Jorge Carrascal was shown a straight red card at 90 minutes, forcing the visitors to finish the match with ten men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Flamengo held on to secure all three points in the rivalry match.
