Birmingham City FC strengthened their Championship standing with a composed 2–0 victory over Wrexham AFC on matchday 42, decided by two second-half strikes at St Andrew’s on Sunday.
After a tightly contested first half in which neither side found a breakthrough, the match swung Birmingham’s way shortly after the interval. In the 48th minute, Carlos Vicente opened the scoring for the hosts, finishing off a move created by Kai Wagner. Vicente’s goal gave Birmingham control at a key moment and forced Wrexham to chase the game.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 71st minute. Defender Christoph Klarer got on the scoresheet, with Seung-Ho Paik providing the assist after coming on as a half-time substitute. Klarer’s goal effectively settled the contest, giving Birmingham a two-goal cushion that Wrexham were unable to overcome.
The first half had seen a couple of early flashpoints, with Birmingham’s Jhon Solis booked in the 25th minute and Wrexham’s Max Cleworth cautioned just two minutes later. Solis was replaced at the break by Paik, who made a telling contribution with his assist for the second goal.
Wrexham managerially responded with a triple wave of changes on the hour and into the final stages, introducing Josh Windass, Nathan Broadhead, Sam Smith and later Davis Keillor-Dunn in search of a turnaround. Birmingham, meanwhile, brought on Demarai Gray, Tommy Doyle and Ethan Laird to see out the result.
Beyond the goals, bookings and substitutions, detailed match statistics and minute-by-minute events were not available at the time of writing. However, the result keeps Birmingham in the hunt for a strong finish in the Championship, while Wrexham leave empty-handed after a difficult afternoon.
