Real Madrid are on course to finish the 2025–26 season without silverware, but Kylian Mbappé has remained one of the few bright spots in an otherwise underwhelming campaign.
The French forward has delivered impressive numbers, scoring 41 goals and providing six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. Despite that, frustration among sections of the fanbase appears to be growing.
An online petition calling for Mbappé to leave the club has reportedly attracted tens of millions of signatures, although the exact legitimacy of that figure remains unclear. It is difficult to determine how many of those signatures come from genuine Madrid supporters, but the scale of the reaction highlights rising discontent.
Much of the backlash seems to be linked to Mbappé’s off-field activity. Images of the 27-year-old with actress Ester Expósito, which circulated widely on social media, sparked criticism—particularly as they emerged while he was sidelined with a thigh injury.
Supporters questioned his commitment after he was seen spending time in Italy during his recovery period, with some viewing it as poorly timed given the team’s struggles.
Mbappé’s fitness also remains a concern ahead of a crucial clash against Barcelona. A defeat in that match could hand their rivals the title, adding further pressure on both the player and the team.
Despite the noise surrounding the situation, Real Madrid are not expected to consider an exit. Mbappé remains a key figure in the squad and is under contract until 2029, making any immediate departure highly unlikely.
