New York City FC were denied all three points at home on MLS Matchday 6 as St. Louis City snatched a 1–1 draw with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser on Saturday.
The match, part of the MLS regular season, finished level after substitute Brendan McSorley struck in the 90th minute plus five for the visitors, cancelling out Hannes Wolf’s earlier opener.
After a scoreless first half that saw St. Louis City’s Daniel Edelman booked in the 43rd minute, NYCFC made the breakthrough shortly after the interval. In the 50th minute, Hannes Wolf put the hosts ahead, finishing a move created by veteran playmaker Maxi Moralez, who provided the assist to make it 1–0.
The goal sparked a more physical spell, with yellow cards shown to Jaziel Orozco for St. Louis City in the 56th minute and to Wolf himself two minutes later. St. Louis midfielder Dante Polvara also went into the book in the 61st minute as the visitors pushed to get back into the game.
Both coaches turned to their benches in search of an edge. St. Louis City introduced Miguel Perez on 65 minutes, followed by a double change in the 71st minute as Lukas MacNaughton and Cedric Teuchert replaced Daniel Edelman and Sergio Córdova. NYCFC responded with a 75th-minute double substitution, bringing on Jonathan Shore and Raul Gustavo, and later introducing Talles Magno and Nico Cavallo in the closing stages.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time. In the 90th minute plus five, McSorley, who had entered the match in the 80th minute for Simon Becher, found the equaliser for St. Louis City, finishing a move set up by MacNaughton to level the score at 1–1.
