UD Las Palmas strengthened their promotion ambitions with a controlled 2–0 victory over CD Leganés on matchday 36 of the Segunda División.
The hosts took an early lead in the 20th minute through Estanis Pedrola, who opened the scoring to make it 1–0 and give Las Palmas an ideal platform in front of their own supporters. Leganés struggled to find a response before the break as the home side managed the tempo well.
Las Palmas were forced into their first change just before the hour mark, with goalscorer Pedrola making way for Viti in the 59th minute. Leganés reacted quickly with a double substitution on 61 minutes, introducing Lalo Aguilar and Óscar Plano for Marcos Leiva and Seydouba Cisse in search of more attacking impetus.
The decisive second goal arrived in the 68th minute. Manuel Fuster finished off a move set up by Lorenzo Amatucci, doubling the advantage and effectively putting the game out of Leganés’ reach. Fuster had earlier gone into the referee’s book with a yellow card in the 34th minute, but his contribution in the final third proved far more significant.
Leganés continued to rotate their side, bringing on Gonzalo Melero, Roberto López and Diego García in the closing stages, while Las Palmas introduced Iker Bravo, Pejiño, Iván Gil and Juanma Herzog to see out the contest. The only disciplinary issues recorded were three yellow cards for Las Palmas players: Fuster, Sergio Barcia (78’) and Enrique Clemente (90’).
The result keeps Las Palmas well positioned in the Segunda División standings as the regular season enters its final weeks, while Leganés leave the Canary Islands empty-handed. Detailed statistics such as possession, shots and full lineups were not available at the time of writing.
