Christian Pulisic was absent from AC Milan’s Serie A clash against Atalanta after picking up a lower back injury, raising concerns ahead of the final stretch of the season.
The United States international experienced discomfort during training on Friday, and the issue proved serious enough to rule him out of the matchday squad entirely. Further medical tests are expected to determine the extent of the problem.
Pulisic is now a doubt for Milan’s next fixture against Genoa, although there is optimism he could return in time for the final game of the campaign against Cagliari.
The setback adds to a difficult period for the 27-year-old, who has struggled for form in recent months. He has not scored in Serie A since late December, marking his longest goal drought in the competition, and has also gone several matches without finding the net for the United States.
Milan, meanwhile, suffered a 3-2 defeat to Atalanta, a result that complicates their push for Champions League qualification. The team remains in the top four but faces increasing pressure from close rivals in the standings.
Despite the injury concern, Pulisic is not currently expected to miss the upcoming World Cup. The United States will play friendly matches against Senegal and Germany before beginning their tournament campaign in June.
