Holstein Kiel produced a ruthless first-half performance to defeat 1. FC Kaiserslautern 3–0 at home on matchday 30 of the 2. Bundesliga, tightening their grip on the upper reaches of the table.
The hosts struck first in the 16th minute. Umut Tohumcu finished off a well-worked move, converting after being set up by Kasper Davidsen to give Kiel an early 1–0 lead. Their intensity forced Kaiserslautern onto the back foot and set the tone for the remainder of the half.
Tension briefly flared on 33 minutes when Lasse Rosenboom of Kiel and Kaiserslautern defender Paul Joly were both booked in the same incident. The hosts, however, remained in control and quickly translated that composure into goals.
Phil Harres doubled the advantage in the 36th minute, finishing clinically after an assist from Ikem Ugoh to make it 2–0. Just four minutes later, Kiel effectively killed the contest: defender David Zec rose to meet a delivery and scored the third, with Tohumcu turning provider this time. At 3–0 before the break, Kaiserslautern were left with a mountain to climb.
Kiel were forced into an early change on 24 minutes as Jonas Therkelsen replaced Steven Skrzybski, while Kaiserslautern responded at half-time with a double substitution, introducing Luca Sirch and Ji-soo Kim. Further changes from both sides followed in the second half, including attacking options Daniel Hanslik and Kenny Prince Redondo for the visitors, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
Davidsen collected a yellow card in the 64th minute, the third and final booking of the match. No additional detailed statistics or late key events were provided beyond the recorded goals, bookings and substitutions.
The result underscores Holstein Kiel’s strength at home as the 2. Bundesliga season enters its decisive phase. Full match details and competition context can be found on Ballaxy and the 2. Bundesliga league page.
