Maren Haile-Selassie struck early to give Chicago Fire FC a 1–0 victory over Atlanta United FC in MLS regular-season play on matchday 7, with the hosts holding on to their first-half advantage through a disciplined, stop-start encounter.
The decisive moment arrived in the 13th minute. Haile-Selassie finished off a move for Chicago after being picked out by Jonathan Bamba, whose assist carved open the Atlanta defence. The goal stood as the only strike of the night, putting the Fire in front and forcing the visitors to chase the game.
The tone was set within the opening minutes, as Atlanta’s Tomas Jacob received a yellow card in the 3rd minute. Chicago midfielder Philip Zinckernagel followed into the book just five minutes later, underlining the competitive edge between the sides. After the break, Leonardo Barroso also picked up a yellow for the hosts in the 48th minute.
Both coaches turned to their benches in search of a breakthrough or insurance goal. Atlanta made their first change in the 66th minute, introducing Steven Alzate for Cooper Wyatt Sanchez. Chicago responded with a double substitution two minutes later, bringing on Jonathan Dean for the cautioned Barroso and Mauricio Pineda for Dje Davilla.
Atlanta rolled the dice in the 78th minute with a triple change, as Cayman Togashi, Pedro Amador and Luke Brennan entered for Emmanuel Latte Lath, Elías Báez and Saba Lobzhanidze respectively. Late in the contest, Chicago freshened their attack in the 89th minute, replacing Bamba with Puso Dithejane and Zinckernagel with Jason Shokalook, while Atlanta introduced Ajani Fortune for Matías Galarza.
No further goals followed, and Chicago’s early strike proved enough to secure all three points. Detailed statistics such as shots, possession and full lineups were not available at the time of writing.
