Mijatovic Salvages Point for Braunschweig in Draw with Nürnberg
Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Nürnberg shared the points in a 1–1 draw on Matchday 28 of the 2. Bundesliga, as a second-half response from the hosts cancelled out an early Nürnberg lead.
The visitors struck first in the 17th minute. Rabby Nzingoula put Nürnberg ahead, finishing off a move created by Mohamed Alì Zoma, whose assist opened up the Braunschweig defence and made it 1–0 to the Franconian side.
Braunschweig were forced into an early change in the 25th minute when Sidi Sane made way for Jovan Mijatovic. The substitute would later prove decisive. Before the break, Nürnberg defender Fabio Gruber received a yellow card in the 37th minute, one of several bookings in a competitive contest.
Immediately after half-time, Braunschweig introduced Aaron Opoku for Grant-Leon Ranos as they pushed for a response. The equaliser eventually arrived in the 61st minute. Mijatovic, who had come on in the first half, levelled the match with a goal assisted by Fabio Di Michele Sanchez, bringing the score to 1–1.
Both coaches turned to their benches in the closing stages. Nürnberg replaced Tom Baack with Rafael Lubach in the 69th minute, shortly after Baack had been booked, while Braunschweig brought on Lino Tempelmann for Max Marie at the same time. Nürnberg later introduced Finn Ole Becker and Javier Fernández in the 80th minute, with further late changes on both sides in stoppage time as Adriano Grimaldi and Justin-Kai von der Hitz entered for the visitors, and Fabio Kaufmann plus Erencan Yardimci came on for the hosts.
Mijatovic’s name went into the referee’s book in the 89th minute as he received a yellow card, underlining the intensity of the final phase. Despite the flurry of substitutions, neither side could find a winner.
Detailed data on shots, possession and other match statistics are not available, but the timeline of goals, bookings and substitutions underlines a balanced encounter. The result leaves both Eintracht Braunschweig and 1. FC Nürnberg with a share of the spoils in their push for a strong finish to the 2. Bundesliga season.
