Getafe sink Athletic Club 2–0 as Vázquez and Satriano strike in key La Liga win

Getafe CF claimed an important 2–0 home victory over Athletic Club on matchday 30 of the Primera Division, with early and late goals from Luis Vázquez and Martin Satriano sealing the points.

The hosts struck first in the 14th minute. Luis Vázquez finished off a move created by Martin Satriano, giving Getafe an ideal start and a 1–0 lead to protect. From there, the match grew more combative, with the home side picking up several bookings as they sought to disrupt Athletic’s rhythm.

Dakonam Djené was cautioned in the 29th minute, followed shortly after by Athletic’s Yuri Berchiche on 31 minutes. Mauro Arambarri joined them in the referee’s book just before the interval, underlining an increasingly physical contest. Sebastián Boselli later received Getafe’s third yellow card in the 85th minute.

Athletic Club head coach turned to his bench at half-time, introducing Ruiz de Galarreta and Nico Williams for Alejandro Rego and Gorka Guruzeta in an attempt to change the dynamic. Further changes on 64 minutes saw Jesús Areso and Mikel Vesga come on, and Sannadi replaced Oihan Sancet in the 71st minute as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.

Getafe, however, managed the game effectively. Luis Vázquez was withdrawn for Mario Martin in the 67th minute, and later Adri Liso and Djené made way for Veljko Birmančević and Diego Rico as the hosts looked to see out the result.

The decisive second goal arrived in the 90th minute. This time, Satriano turned scorer, finishing after being set up by substitute Mario Martin to secure a 2–0 win for Getafe over Athletic Club.
