Canada have been dealt an injury concern ahead of the World Cup, with Alphonso Davies sidelined due to a hamstring problem, Bayern Munich confirmed on Friday.
The left-back sustained the injury during Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, a result that saw the German side eliminated from the competition. Medical staff expect Davies to be out for several weeks, putting his availability for the tournament in doubt.
Canada are set to kick off their World Cup campaign on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, leaving a tight recovery window for one of their key players.
Davies, 25, has been a central figure for both club and country, scoring 15 goals in 58 appearances for Canada. At Bayern, he has enjoyed significant success, winning multiple Bundesliga titles and playing a key role in their 2020 Champions League triumph.
While Bayern have already secured the league title this season, they still have the German Cup final against Stuttgart remaining. Davies’ recovery will now be closely monitored, with Canada hoping their star defender can return in time for the biggest stage.
