Manchester City defender Joško Gvardiol has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, boosting hopes of his involvement at the upcoming World Cup with Croatia.
The 23-year-old had been out for four months after suffering a broken leg during a Premier League clash with Chelsea in January, an injury that required surgery and cast doubt over his availability for the summer tournament.
However, Gvardiol has now resumed training and is progressing well in his recovery. Pep Guardiola confirmed the positive update, expressing optimism that the defender will be ready to contribute both for club and country.
“He’s feeling good,” Guardiola said, welcoming his return after a demanding period earlier in the season. The City manager also highlighted Gvardiol’s importance to the team, noting how heavily he was relied upon during injury-hit stretches last year.
Guardiola hopes the Croatian can play a role in the closing stages of the campaign before heading into the World Cup in strong condition.
Meanwhile, City could also receive another boost with Rodri nearing a return from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of recent matches. His absence has coincided with a slight dip in form, including a 3-3 draw against Everton that left City trailing Arsenal in the title race.
With key fixtures still to come — including an FA Cup final against Chelsea — Gvardiol’s return could prove timely as City look to finish the season strongly.
