Fares Ghedjemis’ rise to the top of European football has been anything but conventional. Just four years ago, the Algerian winger was playing in the lower tiers of French football.
Today, he is preparing for a return to Serie A with Frosinone and dreaming of a place in Algeria’s World Cup squad.
The 23-year-old’s journey has been defined by persistence. After being overlooked by clubs early in his career, including missing out on a professional contract at Le Havre, Ghedjemis chose a different path — working his way up step by step through France’s lower divisions.
His breakthrough came during a short spell at Vannes, where he produced a string of standout performances that caught the attention of third-tier side Rouen. From there, his rise accelerated, eventually earning him a move to Italy with Frosinone.
Adapting to a new country and language presented challenges, but Ghedjemis quickly settled, driven by his passion for the game. His development has continued this season, playing a key role in Frosinone’s promotion back to Serie A, including scoring 15 league goals.
His progress has also been recognised at international level. Ghedjemis made his debut for Algeria in March and marked the occasion with a goal, further strengthening his case for inclusion in the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Despite the growing attention, he remains grounded about his chances. While he hopes to be selected, he insists he is focused on continuing to prove himself.
For Ghedjemis, the journey from street football and lower leagues to the brink of the World Cup is a testament to resilience and belief. His story serves as inspiration for others chasing similar dreams — proof that setbacks can be stepping stones to success.
