Esgaio Strike Earns Arouca Narrow Win Over Estrela da Amadora
FC Arouca edged past CF Estrela da Amadora 1–0 in a tight Primeira Liga clash on Matchday 30, with a single goal from Tiago Esgaio just after the interval proving decisive.
The game, played on 19 April 2026, remained goalless through a competitive first half in which Arouca picked up two bookings. Espen van Ee was shown a yellow card in the 32nd minute, followed by a caution for Javi Sánchez shortly before the break on 44 minutes, underlining the home side’s aggressive approach.
The breakthrough arrived immediately after half-time. In the 46th minute, Tiago Esgaio struck for Arouca, giving the hosts a 1–0 lead. It was the only goal of the afternoon and ultimately enough to separate the sides.
Estrela da Amadora had already been forced into an early reshuffle, with Bernardo replaced by Luan Patrick in the 23rd minute. The visitors later introduced attacking options including Jovane Cabral and Jorge Meireles on 70 minutes, and, in the closing stages, Sydney van Hooijdonk and Paulo Moreira at 80 minutes as they chased an equaliser.
Arouca responded with their own changes to manage the game. Van Ee made way for Pedro Santos on 61 minutes, while Pablo Gozalbez was replaced by Alfonso Trezza at the same time. Later, Hyun-Ju Lee came off for Mateo Flores in the 69th minute, before a double substitution on 75 minutes saw Naïs Djouahra and Barbero replaced by Matías Rocha and Puche.
The final minutes were increasingly tense, reflected in a flurry of late yellow cards. Pedro Santos was booked on 72 minutes, while stoppage-time cautions went to Estrela’s Jorge Meireles and Arouca duo Mateo Flores and Matías Rocha.
With no further goals or major incidents recorded, Esgaio’s strike remained the difference as Arouca secured a valuable home win in the Primeira Liga. Detailed statistical data beyond goals, substitutions, and bookings was not available.
