Lobzhanidze Brace Sparks Atlanta United Comeback Win Over Montreal
Saba Lobzhanidze struck twice and Emmanuel Latte Lath added another as Atlanta United FC rallied from an early setback to defeat Montreal Impact FC 3–1 on MLS Matchday 11.
Montreal made the perfect start in the 6th minute. Matthew Longstaff finished off a move to give the visitors a 1–0 lead, turning in a chance created by Prince-Osei Owusu. That early strike briefly silenced the home side and followed an even earlier yellow card for Atlanta forward Emmanuel Latte Lath in the 4th minute.
Atlanta gradually grew into the contest and found their breakthrough in the 41st minute. Lobzhanidze levelled the score at 1–1, converting after good work from Aleksei Miranchuk, who provided the assist.
The hosts then flipped the match on its head during first-half stoppage time. In the 45+6th minute, Miranchuk again played provider, this time setting up Latte Lath to make it 2–1 and send Atlanta into the break in front.
Any hopes of a Montreal response were further dented shortly after halftime. In the 50th minute, Lobzhanidze grabbed his second of the night, finishing a move assisted by Cooper Wyatt Sanchez to extend the lead to 3–1.
Montreal head coach Hernán Losada (if applicable) turned to his bench just before the hour mark with a triple substitution at the 59th minute, introducing Daniel Ríos, Noah Streit and Victor Loturi. Atlanta responded with changes of their own, including replacing both scorers Lobzhanidze and Latte Lath around the 64th minute. Further substitutions followed on both sides as the match wore on.
Discipline became a storyline late on. Montreal’s Brayan Vera was sent off in the 90th minute with a red card, while Enea Mihaj and Tomas Jacob of Atlanta also received yellow cards in stoppage time. Earlier bookings had gone to Samuel Piette, Prince-Osei Owusu and Atlanta goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos.
