Bednarek Header Edges Porto Past Alverca in Tight Primeira Liga Clash
Jan Bednarek was the unlikely match-winner as FC Porto ground out a 1–0 victory over FC Alverca on Matchday 32 of the Primeira Liga.
The decisive moment came in the 40th minute, when Bednarek struck for the hosts to make it 1–0. The goal was created by Gabriel Veiga, who provided the assist before the Porto defender applied the finish to give his side a lead they would not relinquish.
The game had already grown tense before the breakthrough. In the 38th minute both sides went into the referee’s book almost simultaneously, with Alverca’s Chiquinho and Porto defender Jakub Kiwior each shown yellow cards.
After the interval, Porto adjusted with a double change at half-time, introducing Alan Varela for Kiwior and Martim Fernandes for Zaidu Sanusi. Later, Oskar Pietuszewski made way for Borja Sainz on 63 minutes, and Veiga was replaced by Seko Fofana in the 74th minute. In the closing stages, Pepê departed for Rodrigo Mora on 86 minutes as Porto looked to manage their narrow advantage.
Alverca, meanwhile, saw the majority of disciplinary action in the second half. Kaiky Marques (52’), Sandro Lima (74’) and Lucas Figueiredo (77’) all received yellow cards as the visitors pushed to get back into the match. Coach-driven changes followed, with Marko Milovanovic and Davy Gui entering on 77 minutes, before late substitutions brought on Zakaria Kassary, Diogo Spencer and Cédric Nuozzi in the final moments.
No further goals were recorded after Bednarek’s strike, and FC Porto secured the three points with the single first-half effort. Detailed statistics such as possession figures, shots, and goalkeeper saves were not available at the time of writing.
The result keeps Porto on track in the late stages of the regular season, while Alverca leave empty-handed despite a combative display. Full match information and context can be found on Ballaxy’s match centre: Porto vs Alverca.
