Kilmarnock cruise past Dundee United in vital relegation-round win
Kilmarnock FC took a significant step towards securing their Scottish Premiership status with a convincing 3–0 home win over Dundee United FC on matchday 35 of the relegation round.
The hosts struck first on 20 minutes, when defender Robbie Deas opened the scoring. Deas finished off a move created by Greg Kiltie, whose assist put Kilmarnock 1–0 up and set the tone for the afternoon.
Dundee United’s frustration began to show before the break, with Neil Farrugia booked in the 28th minute. Kilmarnock made their first change at half-time, introducing Dominic Thompson for Nicky Cleşcenco, and the home side quickly tightened their grip after the restart.
Findlay Curtis doubled the advantage on 51 minutes, extending Kilmarnock’s lead to 2–0. The goal, recorded without an assist, gave the home side a comfortable cushion and left Dundee United chasing the game.
The visitors responded with a series of substitutions around the hour mark, including Vicko Sevelj and Ivan Dolček coming on as Dundee United tried to reshape their approach. However, any hopes of a comeback were effectively ended in the 64th minute, when Joe Hugill added a third for Kilmarnock, taking the score to 3–0.
Kilmarnock then used the closing stages to manage the contest, making a triple substitution in the 74th minute as Rory McKenzie, Lewis Mayo and Kyle Magennis replaced Findlay Curtis, Michael Schjønning-Larsen and Greg Kiltie. Dundee United had earlier introduced Craig Sibbald and Johnny Russell in a final attempt to change the momentum, but the home defence held firm.
The result leaves Kilmarnock with a vital three points in the relegation round, while Dundee United face increased pressure in the battle at the bottom. Detailed statistics beyond goals, cards and substitutions were not available at the time of writing.
