Muirhead Rescues Livingston in Dramatic Draw with Aberdeen

Livingston FC battled back to secure a 2-2 draw against Aberdeen FC in the Scottish Premiership relegation round on matchday 35, with substitutes playing a decisive role in a tense second half.

Aberdeen edged in front on 24 minutes through Mitchel Frame, who finished after being set up by Dennis Geiger. The visitors carried that 1-0 advantage into the interval, but Livingston responded immediately after the restart.

Home boss David Martindale reshaped his side at half-time with a triple change, introducing Barrie McKay, Scott Pittman and Macaulay Tait. The impact was swift as Joel Nouble levelled the match in the 47th minute, bringing Livingston back into contention.

The hosts looked to press on but were rocked on 71 minutes when defender Danny Finlayson put through his own net, restoring Aberdeen’s lead at 2-1. Moments earlier, Babacar Fati had entered the referee’s book with a yellow card, underlining the growing tension.

Livingston refused to fold, however, and it was another substitute who delivered the crucial response. Brought on for Nouble in the 71st minute, Robbie Muirhead struck in the 78th minute to make it 2-2 and swing the momentum back towards the home side.

The closing stages were fractious, with further yellow cards shown to Finlayson and Tait for Livingston and to Aberdeen’s Topi Keskinen deep into stoppage time. Aberdeen also turned to their bench, bringing on Mats Knoester, Ante Palaversa, Keskinen, Nicolas Milanovic and Elvis Bwomono in search of a late winner, but neither side could find a decisive third goal.

The draw leaves both clubs still fighting for crucial points in the relegation round, with Livingston’s resilience and Aberdeen’s missed opportunity likely to loom large in the final weeks of the campaign. More detailed match statistics and events beyond the goals, bookings and substitutions were not available at the time of writing.
