Wrexham AFC closed out their Championship campaign with a 2-2 home draw against Middlesbrough FC, as all four goals arrived in a breathless first-half spell on matchday 46.
Middlesbrough struck early, taking the lead in the 4th minute. Tommy Conway finished off a move created down the right, converting after a delivery from Callum Brittain to make it 1-0 to the visitors.
Wrexham grew into the game and found their response just before the half-hour mark. In the 28th minute, Josh Windass levelled the score at 1-1, bringing the hosts back into contention with a precise finish. That goal shifted the momentum, and Wrexham capitalised shortly before the interval.
On 41 minutes, Sam Smith completed the turnaround, putting Wrexham 2-1 ahead. Smith was set up by Issa Kaboré, whose assist created space for the forward to edge the hosts in front and briefly swing the match in their favour.
The lead was short-lived. Middlesbrough responded almost immediately, equalising in the 43rd minute through Dávid Strelec. The forward was picked out by Matt Targett, and Strelec’s goal restored parity at 2-2 before half-time.
The second half brought a wave of substitutions from both sides as managers turned to their benches. Riley McGree, Leo Castledine and Jeremy Sarmiento came on for Middlesbrough, while Wrexham introduced Ben Sheaf, Nathan Broadhead, Kieffer Moore, Ryan Longman and Davis Keillor-Dunn. However, none of the changes could produce a decisive breakthrough.
No bookings were recorded in the match, and no further goals followed the first-half flurry. Detailed statistics beyond goals and substitutions were not available at the time of writing.
The draw leaves both clubs to reflect on a spirited end to the regular Championship season. Full match information can be found at Ballaxy’s match centre, with league context available via the Championship page.
