Simms Hat-trick Powers Coventry to 4–0 Rout of Watford on Final Day

Ellis Simms delivered a ruthless hat-trick as Coventry City cruised to a 4–0 victory over Watford FC on the final day of the Championship regular season, capping matchday 46 with a dominant away performance.

The visitors struck first on 19 minutes. Jake Bidwell advanced down the left and picked out Simms, who converted to give Coventry an early 1–0 lead. Watford’s frustration soon showed, with Imran Louza booked in the 25th minute, moments before Coventry’s Joel Latibeaudiere also saw yellow in a brief flashpoint.

Coventry tightened their grip just before the interval. In the 43rd minute, Josh Eccles supplied Simms, who finished again to send the Sky Blues into half-time 2–0 up and firmly in control.

Any hopes of a Watford response after the break were quickly dashed. On 58 minutes, Victor Torp slipped Simms through and the striker completed his hat-trick with Coventry’s third of the afternoon, effectively settling the contest.

Watford managerially responded with a triple substitution on 62 minutes, introducing Jack Grieves, Edoardo Bove and Marc Bola, and later bringing on Tom Ince and Mamadou Doumbia. Nestor Irankunda was booked on 78 minutes as the hosts continued to struggle to contain Coventry’s attacks.

Coventry’s bench made its impact too. After a series of changes on 70 minutes, Jamie Allen came on and played a key role in the final goal. On 85 minutes, Allen teed up Torp, who struck Coventry’s fourth to complete a comprehensive away win. Simms was then withdrawn to applause, replaced by Haji Wright on 79 minutes.
