Last-gasp Cícero strike completes dramatic Tondela comeback at Sporting

Sporting Clube de Portugal let a two-goal advantage slip in extraordinary fashion, drawing 2–2 at home to CD Tondela on Primeira Liga matchday 26 after conceding twice in stoppage time.

The game, played on 29 April 2026, came to life after the interval. Sporting broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute when Luis Suárez finished a move created by substitute Salvador Blopa, putting the hosts 1–0 up. The advantage was doubled on 78 minutes in bizarre circumstances, as Tondela defender Joao Silva put the ball into his own net to make it 2–0.

Tondela had already endured a difficult first half, with Pedro Maranhão, Rony Lopes and Tiago Manso all booked before the break. Sporting defender Eduardo Quaresma also saw yellow on the stroke of half-time, while Blopa later joined him in the book in the 78th minute.

Both coaches turned to their benches early in the second half. Sporting introduced Trincão and Blopa in a double change on 57 minutes, while Tondela brought on Arjen van der Heide at the same time and later refreshed their midfield and attack with Joe Hodge, Makan Aïko, Hugo Félix and Cícero. Those late attacking substitutions proved decisive.

In stoppage time, the match was turned on its head. In the 90+2 minute, Blopa, who had earlier assisted Sporting’s opener, inadvertently scored an own goal, handing Tondela a lifeline at 2–1. Just two minutes later, in the 90+4 minute, Cícero completed a remarkable comeback, scoring from a pass by Hugo Félix to level the game at 2–2.
