Reus Brace Lifts LA Galaxy Past Real Salt Lake in Late MLS Thriller
Marco Reus delivered a decisive performance for Los Angeles Galaxy, scoring both goals in a 2–1 home victory over Real Salt Lake on MLS Matchday 10.
The hosts struck early in Los Angeles, with Reus opening the scoring in the 9th minute. The German forward put Galaxy in front with a composed finish to make it 1–0, giving the home side the ideal start.
Real Salt Lake were handed a route back into the contest deep into first-half stoppage time. In the 45th minute plus four, Galaxy goalkeeper J.T. Marcinkowski was credited with an own goal, turning the ball into his own net after pressure in the area. Aiden Hezarkhani was listed with the assist on the equaliser, sending the teams into the break level at 1–1.
The second half grew increasingly tense, reflected in a flurry of yellow cards on both sides. Justin Haak, Lucas Sanabria and Mauricio Cuevas all went into the book for Galaxy, while Noel Caliskan, Juan Sanabria, Diego Luna, Sam Junqua and even Real Salt Lake coach Pablo Mastroeni received cautions for the visitors. Elijah Wynder was also booked late on for the home team.
Both coaches turned to their benches in search of a breakthrough. Galaxy introduced Edwin Cerrillo at half-time, followed later by Wynder, Miki Yamane, Chris Rindov and Isaiah Parente. Real Salt Lake responded with attacking and structural changes, bringing on Morgan Guilavogui, Sergi Solans, Dominik Marczuk, DeAndre Yedlin and Pablo Ruíz.
The decisive moment arrived in the 85th minute, when Galaxy were awarded a penalty. Reus stepped up and converted from the spot to restore the lead at 2–1, completing his brace and sealing all three points for the home side.
