Volendam strike after the break to sink Heracles in key Eredivisie clash

FC Volendam boosted their Eredivisie survival hopes with a composed 2–0 victory away to Heracles Almelo, decided by two second-half goals on matchday 31 of the regular season.

After a goalless first half in Almelo, the visitors seized control shortly after the interval. In the 55th minute, Anthony Descotte broke the deadlock for Volendam, putting his side 1–0 up and shifting the momentum decisively in favour of the away team.

Heracles responded with a double change three minutes later, introducing Lequincio Zeefuik for Sava Cestic and Erik Ahlstrand for Tristan van Gilst as they tried to inject fresh energy into the side. The adjustments, however, did not prevent Volendam from doubling their lead.

On 61 minutes, Brandley Kuwas came on for Robin van Cruijsen and made an immediate impact. Just a minute later, another substitution proved decisive as Robert Mühren replaced Henk Veerman and quickly found the net. In the 62nd minute, Mühren finished a move set up by Kuwas to make it 2–0, giving Volendam clear daylight on the scoreboard.

Heracles coach turned again to his bench in the 67th minute, sending on Djevencio van der Kust for Mario Engels and Naci Ünüvar for Thomas Bruns, but the hosts were unable to find a route back into the game. Zeefuik’s frustration showed late on as he picked up a yellow card in the 87th minute.

Volendam later introduced Aurelio Oehlers and Nordin Bukala for Bilal Ould-Chikh and Gibbo Yah respectively, helping see out a controlled finish to the match.
