Mansfield Hit Four Past Huddersfield to Close Out League One Campaign in Style

Mansfield Town produced a dominant away performance to defeat Huddersfield Town AFC 4–1 on matchday 45 of the League One season.

The visitors struck first on 15 minutes. Lucas Akins finished off a well-worked move, converting after good play from Rhys Oates, whose assist set Mansfield on their way.

Huddersfield’s afternoon worsened shortly before the break in unfortunate fashion. In the 43rd minute, Murray Wallace turned the ball into his own net, doubling Mansfield’s lead at 2–0 and giving the home side a mountain to climb. Moments earlier, Mansfield midfielder Jonathan Russell had gone into the book on 42 minutes.

Any hopes of a Huddersfield comeback were dealt a further blow early in the second half. On 51 minutes, Regan Hendry added a third, finishing after being picked out by Russell, whose earlier caution did little to dull his influence before he was substituted shortly after the hour.

Huddersfield responded just before the hour mark. Substitute Antony Evans, introduced on 58 minutes, quickly made an impact, setting up Marcus Harness to pull one back on 60 minutes and reduce the deficit to 3–1.

Mansfield restored their three-goal cushion five minutes later. Substitute Oliver Irow, brought on in the 57th minute, scored in the 65th after another assist from the lively Oates. Irow had been booked a minute earlier, but his contribution in the final third ensured the visitors remained firmly in control.

Further substitutions followed from both sides as the game wound down, and Huddersfield’s Marcus McGuane received a yellow card on 90 minutes. No additional goals arrived, with Mansfield seeing out a convincing 4–1 victory.

Beyond the goals, substitutions and bookings listed in the match data, detailed statistics and match incidents are not available.
