CD Nacional strike early to defeat Tondela 2–0 in Primeira Liga

CD Nacional earned an important 2–0 away victory over CD Tondela on Matchday 31 of the Primeira Liga, sealing the result with two first-half strikes and then managing the game professionally after the break.

The visitors went in front in the 22nd minute. Chuchu finished the move for Nacional, with Daniel Jr. providing the assist to make it 1–0 and give the away side an early advantage.

Tondela’s evening worsened just nine minutes later. In the 31st minute, defender Brayan Medina inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, doubling Nacional’s lead at 2–0. The own goal left the hosts with a steep uphill task for the remaining hour.

Early on, Nacional were forced into a change when Gabriel Veron made way for Pablo Ruan in the 14th minute. Tondela responded later in the first half with a substitution of their own, bringing on Tiago Manso for Rodrigo Conceição in the 38th minute in search of more control.

The second half saw more changes as Tondela introduced Makan Aïko and Sphephelo Sithole just after the hour mark and later Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka, while Nacional freshened up their side with André Sousa, Joel Silva and João Aurélio coming on in the latter stages.

Discipline played a minor role, with three yellow cards shown: Tiago Manso was booked for Tondela in the 58th minute, Chuchu received a caution for Nacional six minutes later, and Makan Aïko was shown yellow in stoppage time. No further goals were recorded after the interval.
