Malen and El Aynaoui Combine as Roma Defeat Bologna in Serie A
AS Roma secured a controlled 2–0 victory away to Bologna FC 1909 on Serie A matchday 34, with Donyell Malen and Neil El Aynaoui central to a first-half performance that proved enough to settle the contest.
Roma struck early, taking the lead in the 7th minute. Neil El Aynaoui picked out Donyell Malen, who finished to put the visitors 1–0 up. The same duo combined again on the stroke of half-time, this time reversing roles. In first-half stoppage time (45+1′), Malen turned provider, setting up El Aynaoui to double Roma’s advantage and send them into the break with a 2–0 lead.
Bologna responded with a double substitution at half-time, introducing Nadir Zortea for Juan Miranda and Jens Odgaard for Santiago Castro in a bid to change the rhythm of the game. Roma also adjusted at the interval, bringing on Devyne Rensch for Zeki Çelik.
The second half featured a series of tactical changes and a disciplined defensive approach from Roma. Mario Hermoso, Devyne Rensch and El Aynaoui all received yellow cards for the visitors in a more fragmented period after the restart. Hermoso was later replaced by Daniele Ghilardi, while Matias Soule made way for Robinio Vaz just after the hour mark.
Bologna continued to search for a route back into the match, making further changes as Lorenzo De Silvestri, Nicolò Cambiaghi and Martin Vitík all entered the fray. Roma, meanwhile, introduced Paulo Dybala for Malen in the 77th minute and Jan Ziółkowski for Niccolo Pisilli in stoppage time to see out the result.
With no further goals after the interval, Roma’s first-half clinical edge and solid game management ensured all three points. Detailed statistics beyond the goals, substitutions and bookings were not available at the time of writing.
