Pittarello Brace Powers Catanzaro to 4–2 Win Over Spezia in Serie B Thriller

US Catanzaro produced a strong second-half display to defeat Spezia Calcio 4–2 in a lively Serie B clash on matchday 36, tightening their grip on a top-half finish in the regular season.

The hosts took control in the 24th minute when Jacopo Petriccione opened the scoring. The midfielder finished off a move created by Costantino Favasuli, whose pass unlocked the Spezia defence for 1–0.

Spezia responded just before the interval. In the 44th minute, Mattia Valoti levelled the match, converting after good work from Gianluca Lapadula to make it 1–1 heading into half-time.

Catanzaro reasserted themselves after the break. On 63 minutes, Fellipe Jack restored the lead, again assisted by Favasuli, who claimed his second decisive pass of the afternoon. The home side then pulled clear in the final quarter-hour.

Filippo Pittarello struck twice in quick succession to put the result beyond doubt. He made it 3–1 in the 78th minute, finishing after a delivery from Tommaso Cassandro, and then added Catanzaro’s fourth just four minutes later, turning in a pass from Federico Di Francesco for 4–1.

Spezia reduced the deficit deep into stoppage time. In the 90th minute plus three, Gianluca Lapadula converted from the penalty spot to register the visitors’ second goal, but it was no more than a late consolation.

The match also featured a series of yellow cards, with cautions for Giuseppe Di Serio, Petko Hristov and Valoti for Spezia, and Petriccione for Catanzaro. Both coaches made multiple second-half substitutions as the tempo remained high.
