Yaremchuk Double Fires Lyon Past Auxerre in Five-Goal Ligue 1 Thriller

Olympique Lyonnais held on for a 3–2 home victory over AJ Auxerre in an entertaining Ligue 1 clash on matchday 31, powered by a brace from Roman Yaremchuk and a decisive contribution off the bench from Corentin Tolisso.

Yaremchuk opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing a move created by Abner Vinicius to give Lyon an early advantage. Auxerre responded before the break, however, when Sinaly Diomandé levelled the match in the 35th minute to make it 1–1.

Lyon coach turned to his bench shortly before half-time, introducing Tanner Tessmann for the injured or tactical withdrawal of Orel Mangala on 34 minutes, and later making a key double change just before the hour. Tolisso replaced Khalis Merah in the 58th minute, with Pavel Šulc also coming on for Tyler Morton in an effort to tilt the game back in the hosts’ favour.

The changes paid off. In the 66th minute, Tolisso restored Lyon’s lead with a well-timed strike, assisted by Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Five minutes later, the midfielder turned provider, setting up Yaremchuk in the 71st minute as the Ukrainian forward netted his second of the afternoon to put Lyon 3–1 ahead.

Auxerre refused to fold and made a triple substitution on 75 minutes, introducing Sekou Mara, Josué Casimir and Naouirou Ahamada in search of a late comeback. Their pressure was finally rewarded in the 88th minute when Bryan Okoh pulled one back, assisted by Diomandé, to set up a tense finish.

Discipline played a minor part in the closing stages, with yellow cards shown to Daniel Namaso (52′), Gideon Mensah (84′) and Ruben Kluivert (89′). Lyon managed the final minutes to secure all three points.
