Brest Let Three-Goal Lead Slip as Lens Complete Stunning Comeback in Six-Goal Thriller
Stade Brestois 29 and Racing Club de Lens produced a remarkable 3-3 draw on Ligue 1 matchday 31, as the visitors mounted a sensational second-half comeback to claim a point after trailing 3-0.
Brest tore into Lens from the outset. In the 7th minute, Daouda Guindo opened the scoring, finishing a move created by Joris Chotard to give the hosts an early advantage. Guindo then turned provider on 24 minutes, setting up Lucas Tousart to double the lead and put Brest firmly in control.
The first-half dominance was underlined three minutes before the break. Ludovic Ajorque teed up Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe, who made it 3-0 and appeared to have Brest cruising towards a convincing home victory.
Lens, however, transformed the match after the interval. A quadruple substitution spell around the 52nd and 53rd minutes introduced Florian Thauvin, Saud Abdulhamid, Samson Baidoo and Allan Saint-Maximin, and the new energy quickly paid off. Thauvin struck in the 60th minute to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Just four minutes later, Lens were right back in it. Abdallah Sima netted in the 64th minute, assisted by Abdulhamid, to make it 3-2 and turn the pressure firmly onto the home side. Sima was then replaced shortly after by Odsonne Edouard as Lens continued to push for parity.
The dramatic finale arrived deep into stoppage time. In the 90th minute plus four, Saint-Maximin completed the comeback, scoring the equaliser after being set up by Mamadou Sangare to stun Brest and secure a valuable away point for Lens.
The match also featured a flurry of yellow cards in a tense closing spell, including bookings for Adrien Thomasson, Dina Ebimbe, Sangare, Saint-Maximin, Kenny Lala and goalkeeper Grégoire Coudert. Beyond the goals, substitutions and cautions listed, detailed statistical data and further match events were not available.
