Goalkeeper Gavran Caps Toronto’s Dramatic Comeback in 3–3 Thriller with Union

Toronto FC and Philadelphia Union produced a spectacular 3–3 draw on MLS matchday 9, with goalkeeper Luka Gavran completing a dramatic late comeback at the death.

Early in the second half, the Union tightened their grip on the contest. Danley Jean Jacques doubled the advantage in the 52nd minute, putting Philadelphia 2–0 up and leaving Toronto with a mountain to climb.

The response from the hosts was immediate. Just four minutes later, Josh Sargent pulled one back in the 56th minute, converting after a well-worked move involving Dániel Sallói, who provided the assist. Toronto’s momentum continued in the 64th minute when Kobe Franklin struck the equaliser, finishing from a pass by José Cifuentes to make it 2–2.

Philadelphia thought they had stolen all three points late on. In the 89th minute, Nathan Harriel restored the Union’s lead, turning in a cross from veteran midfielder Alejandro Bedoya to put the visitors 3–2 ahead.

But the most dramatic moment was still to come. In the 90+6th minute, Toronto goalkeeper Luka Gavran remarkably found the net, latching onto a ball supplied by Alonso Coello Camarero to level the score at 3–3 and spark celebrations from the home side.
