Guruzeta Strike Edges Osasuna as Athletic Club Grind Out Narrow Win

Athletic Club claimed a hard-fought 1–0 victory over CA Osasuna on matchday 33 of the Primera Division, with Gorka Guruzeta’s early goal at the heart of a tense contest.

The hosts struck in the 16th minute, when Guruzeta finished to give Athletic a lead they would not relinquish. The goal separated the sides for the remainder of the evening, as Osasuna failed to find a response.

The game had already sparked into life before the breakthrough. Athletic midfielder Mikel Jauregizar entered the book in the 10th minute, setting the tone for a physical encounter. Osasuna’s Aimar Oroz later received a yellow card shortly after the restart in the 48th minute.

Both coaches turned to their benches in the second half. Athletic refreshed their attack and midfield in the 65th minute, introducing Oihan Sancet, Alejandro Rego and Roberto Navarro for Álex Berenguer, Ruiz de Galarreta and Nico Williams respectively. Aymeric Laporte made way for Daniel Vivian on 75 minutes, while Yuri Berchiche was replaced by Adama Boiro in the 81st minute.

Osasuna responded with their own changes, bringing on Iker Muñoz and Raúl Moro on 71 minutes, followed by Kike Barja in the 78th minute. Late substitutions saw Raúl and Moi Gómez also enter the fray in the 84th minute as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

Tempers flared in the closing stages. Jauregizar received a second booking and was sent off in the 90th minute, while Iñaki Williams and Osasuna’s Moi Gómez were both shown yellow cards in the same period.
