Monaco Fight Back From Two Down to Deny Auxerre in Four-Goal Ligue 1 Draw

AS Monaco FC mounted a strong second-half comeback to draw 2–2 at home against AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1 on Sunday, after the visitors had taken a commanding lead before the break.

Auxerre stunned Monaco early. In the 11th minute, Kevin Danois opened the scoring, putting the visitors 1–0 up. The advantage was doubled just after the half-hour mark when Lassine Sinayoko struck in the 33rd minute, leaving Monaco trailing 2–0 and with work to do on matchday 30 of the regular season.

Monaco, who had already seen Maghnes Akliouche booked in the seventh minute, responded after the interval. A half-time substitution brought Simon Adingra on for Aladji Bamba, and the hosts soon found a way back. In the 56th minute, Ansu Fati reduced the deficit, finishing after good work from Akliouche to make it 2–1.

Just three minutes later, the comeback was complete. Folarin Balogun converted a 59th-minute penalty to level the score at 2–2. The incident also coincided with a yellow card for Monaco midfielder Denis Zakaria, as the game briefly boiled over.

Auxerre turned to their bench in the second half, introducing Josué Casimir, Lamine Sy, Naouirou Ahamada and goalkeeper Théo De Percin, while Monaco later brought on Mamadou Coulibaly, Aleksandr Golovin and Mika Biereth in search of a winner. However, neither side could find a decisive goal.

The closing stages were punctuated by further bookings for Auxerre players Sinayoko (73′), Sy (83′) and Gideon Mensah (90′), but the scoreline remained unchanged to the final whistle.
