Solans Brace Fires Real Salt Lake Past San Diego FC in Six-Goal MLS Clash
Real Salt Lake produced an explosive first-half performance to defeat San Diego FC 4–2 in MLS regular-season action on matchday 8, with Sergi Solans delivering a standout brace.
The hosts were in front almost immediately. In just the 4th minute, Diego Luna opened the scoring for Real Salt Lake to make it 1–0. Two minutes later, Luna turned provider, setting up Solans in the 6th minute as the forward doubled the advantage and put San Diego FC under severe early pressure.
The visitors responded in the 14th minute when Marcus Ingvartsen finished a move created by Lewis Morgan to cut the deficit to 2–1 and briefly shift momentum toward the expansion side.
Real Salt Lake reasserted control before the break. In the 37th minute, Solans struck again, this time assisted by Zavier Gozo, restoring a two-goal cushion at 3–1. On the stroke of half-time, Morgan Guilavogui added a fourth in the 45th minute, with Solans this time turning provider. Moments earlier, San Diego midfielder Bryce Duke had gone into the book with a yellow card in the 45th minute.
San Diego FC turned to their bench at half-time, introducing Pedro Soma and Alexander Mighten for Aníbal Godoy and Duke. Real Salt Lake’s Guilavogui was shown a yellow card in the 51st minute as the second half grew more physical.
The visitors gave themselves hope in the 66th minute when Anders Dreyer converted a penalty to make it 4–2. That goal coincided with further changes from San Diego FC, as David Vazquez and Bryan Zamblé came on for Onni Valakari and Ingvartsen.
Real Salt Lake managed the closing stages with a series of substitutions, including the withdrawals of Luna, Solans and Guilavogui, to see out the victory without further scoring. Additional match statistics, lineups and post-match reactions were not available at the time of writing.
