Late Marie Equaliser Earns Braunschweig a Point Against 10-Man Hertha
Eintracht Braunschweig rescued a 1–1 draw at home to Hertha BSC on matchday 30 of the 2. Bundesliga, with Max Marie’s late strike denying the visitors all three points.
Hertha made the ideal start in Braunschweig, taking the lead in the 11th minute. Fabian Reese struck for the Berlin side to put them 1–0 up, giving the visitors early control. Before that, Braunschweig goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann had already gone into the referee’s book in the 9th minute, setting a combative tone for the contest.
The hosts collected further yellow cards through Lino Tempelmann and Kevin Ehlers in the second half as they pushed for a way back into the game. Coach-driven changes around the hour mark saw Erencan Yardimci, Faride Alidou and Leon Bell Bell introduced in the 64th minute, with Braunschweig increasing their attacking intent.
The match tilted further when Hertha were reduced to ten men in the 73rd minute, as Kennet Eichhorn was shown a straight red card. Linus Gechter followed with a booking a minute later, underlining the pressure on the visitors as Braunschweig stepped up the tempo.
The breakthrough for the home side finally came in the 78th minute. Max Marie levelled the score at 1–1, finishing after an assist from Florian Flick to restore parity. Marie later received a yellow card in the 80th minute, while Hertha’s Deyovaisio Zeefuik and Paul Seguin were also booked late on as the game grew increasingly tense.
Hertha made further substitutions in the closing stages, bringing on Deyovaisio Zeefuik, Dawid Kownacki and Kevin Sessa, while Fabio Kaufmann entered for Braunschweig in the 88th minute. Neither side could find a winner, and the points were shared.
