Late Drama in Toronto as Franklin Salvages 3-3 MLS Thriller Against Austin
Toronto FC and Austin FC shared the points in a dramatic 3-3 draw on MLS matchday 8, with Kobe Franklin’s late strike capping a wild second half at BMO Field.
Austin drew first blood in the 29th minute when Jon Bell found the net to put the visitors 1-0 up. Toronto pushed for a response but went into the interval trailing, with both sides picking up early bookings – Nicolás Dubersarsky for Austin and Raheem Edwards for Toronto.
The hosts turned the game around after the break. In the 52nd minute, Dániel Sallói levelled the score at 1-1, and Toronto rode that momentum to take the lead. Richie Laryea struck in the 67th minute to make it 2-1, putting the home side in control.
Austin’s bench then shifted the balance. Substitute Robert Taylor, introduced in the 57th minute, provided the assist for Facundo Torres Pérez’s 78th-minute equaliser. Just four minutes later, another substitute, Christian Ramírez, completed the turnaround, scoring in the 82nd minute to give Austin a 3-2 lead.
Toronto refused to fold. With time running out, Kobe Franklin struck in the 88th minute to bring the match back to 3-3 and ensure the spoils were shared in an end-to-end contest.
The closing stages were tense, with Toronto collecting a flurry of yellow cards for José Cifuentes, Lazar Stefanović, Alonso Coello Camarero and Emilio Aristizábal, while Austin made further late substitutions to see out the result.
