Leeds United sweep aside Wolves with commanding 3–0 home win
Leeds United FC produced a composed display to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers FC 3–0 in the Premier League on matchday 33, capitalising on a fast start and sealing the points with a stoppage-time penalty.
The hosts struck twice in quick succession midway through the first half. In the 18th minute, James Justin opened the scoring for Leeds, finishing a move created by Noah Okafor to make it 1–0. Just two minutes later, Okafor turned scorer himself, converting after being set up by Brenden Aaronson to double the advantage and leave Wolves reeling.
Wolverhampton tried to respond and turned to the bench early, with Angel Gomes replaced by Mateus Mané in the 38th minute. Further changes followed after the interval as Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and later Hwang Heechan were introduced in search of a route back into the game, but Leeds managed the contest effectively.
The second half featured a flurry of bookings. Rob Edwards was cautioned for Wolves on 57 minutes, while Aaronson received a yellow card for Leeds in the 73rd minute. In a tense finale, both Hugo Bueno for Wolves and Justin for Leeds were also booked around the 90th minute.
Any faint hopes of a Wolves comeback were extinguished deep into added time. In the 90+5th minute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped up to convert from the penalty spot, completing a 3–0 scoreline and capping a clinical outing for the home side.
Leeds also used their bench to see out the game, with Wilfried Gnonto replacing Okafor on 67 minutes and a trio of late substitutions bringing on Ilia Gruev, Joe Rodon, Sean Longstaff and Lukas Nmecha to close things down.
