Wimmer and Pejcinovic Fire Wolfsburg to Crucial Away Win at Union Berlin

VfL Wolfsburg claimed an important 2–1 away win over 1. FC Union Berlin on Bundesliga matchday 30, building a decisive lead through Patrick Wimmer and Dzenan Pejcinovic before holding off a late push from the hosts.

The visitors made the ideal start, going ahead in the 11th minute. Patrick Wimmer finished off an early move for Wolfsburg, converting after being set up by Joakim Mæhle to make it 1–0.

Right after the interval, Wolfsburg doubled their advantage. In the 46th minute, Dzenan Pejcinovic struck to put the away side 2–0 up, with Christian Eriksen providing the assist. The goal gave Wolfsburg a firm grip on the contest and left Union with a steep climb back into the match.

Union Berlin attempted to shift the momentum with a series of substitutions midway through the second half, introducing Tim Skarke and Derrick Köhn on 68 minutes and later András Schafer. Wolfsburg responded with changes of their own, bringing on Adam Daghim and Yannick Gerhardt in the 71st minute.

Jeanuel Belocian received a yellow card for Wolfsburg in the 58th minute, while Union’s Rani Khedira went into the referee’s book on 78 minutes. As the hosts pushed to halve the deficit, Wolfsburg aimed to protect their lead and manage the closing stages.

Union finally found a breakthrough in the 86th minute, when Oliver Burke pulled one back, finishing after an assist from Andrej Ilic to make it 2–1. Wolfsburg reacted immediately with another substitution, introducing Maximilian Arnold for Eriksen to help see out the match.
